Since the inception of the USCENTCOM Department of Defense Rewards Program (DoDRP), over $26.4 million in rewards has been paid for information that has led to a safer Middle East.
The program has paid hundreds of individuals for the valuable information they provided. It continues to see success in rewarding information on issues that negatively impact communities in the region.
Information that has been verified and acted upon includes details of terrorist group operations, unmanned aerial vehicles (commonly known as drones or UAVs), lone-wolf attacks against U.S. forces, weapons caches, and illicit smuggling activity. Because of the sensitivity of the activity, only a small minority of these success stories can be shared openly with the public.
On 1 January 2019, a U.S. drone strike in Marib, Yemen killed Jamel Al-Badawi. Up until his death, Al-Badawi spent years on the United Statesâ Most Wanted Terrorist list for orchestrating the attack on the USS Cole in 2000, which killed 17 sailors and injured 39 others.
